Course content

The thesis must be between 17 500 - 24 500 words (approximately 50-70 pages), and shall indicate that the candidate has completed an individual research project. The content of the thesis must be at master's level and related to any of the interdisciplinary topics included in the study program. One of the academic staff at the department will be appointed as a professional supervisor. The supervisor shall be kept regularly informed of the work with the master's thesis. The topic / research question for the thesis is expected to be chosen within an area where the department's staff has research experience within the field of study. The supervisor will provide the necessary quality assurance when collecting and processing empirical data, and that this takes place within research ethics guidelines. The student will sign an agreement on the completion of the Master's thesis. The agreement regulates the guidance relationship.

Learning outcome

- The student shall have advanced knowledge of the concepts, content and characteristics of the subject
- The student should have solid knowledge about various methodological and analytical approaches
- The student should be able to formulate research questions as a basis for carrying out a scientific work
- The student must have conducted a research project independently and critically using relevant theories and methods, including field methodology
- The student shall master the dissemination of scientific work both in writing and orally
- The student shall have completed a research project in accordance with ethical norms in research
- The student shall be eligible for admission to the PhD program in Social Sciences, spezialisation in Geography
General competence:
- The student shall be qualified for work in public and private activities and research
- The student should be able to apply professional knowledge in communication with specialists as well as the general public

Further on evaluation

The Master's thesis, as well as 1 hour oral exam based on the Master's thesis. At the beginning of the oral exam, the candidate will hold a 10-15 minute presentation of the master's thesis. There will be no opportunity to use PowerPoint or similar presentation tools.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Society (MENTRESAM)

Required previous knowledge

Passed all compulsory and optional courses in the master's degree, included GEOG3021 Internship.
