About the course
Course content
The course will give students a fundamental introduction to central tools, principles and methods for graphic design on a variety of screens such as TVs, smartphones and tablets. The course includes numerous practical exercises and the student is expected to demonstrate responsibility for independent learning and development throughout the semester.
Topics
Typographic basics for presentation and on-screen reading
Type anatomy, type characteristics, type selection, line length, type size, adjustment, typography for responsive design
Basic colour theory, principles and tools for choosing and using colors in digital media
-Colour Composition, Colour Contrast, Universal Design design that includes all, Colour Selection Tools and Evaluation
-Basic principles for layout and composition for screen media
-Page layout, grouping, screen ergonomics, white space, hierarchy, screen formats and resolution
-Sketching techniques and visual genres in design for digital media
-Sketching in design processes, storyboarding, wireframing, lo-fi and hi-fi visual design, current design idioms for digital display, like "flat design", iOS Design Guidlines, Google Material Design, Microsoft Fluent Design.
-Application of graphic tools
-Application of graphic tools for communication, presentation and storytelling.
Learning outcome
Learning outcome knowledge
After successful completion of the course, the student will obtain basic knowledge about graphic design for digital media, including fundamental typography, selection and use of colors and graphic composition. The students will be able to describe the use of different sketching techniques within digital media.
Learning outcome skills
After successful completion, the student shall be able to use fundamental functions in graphic software like Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to import, transform and save graphical elements for use in software for presentation and prototyping like Adobe XD, Apple Keynote, Microsoft powerPoint and Google slides.
Learning outcome General Competence
After successful completion, the student shall be able to make fundamental decisions about graphic methods and tools for the purpose of developing presentation.
The student shall be aware of conventions, genres and best practice in graphic design for digital media and shall to a certain degree be able to apply this to improving or designing new materials for presentation.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures (traditional or on video), video tutorials, workshops, practical exercises, student presentations and seminars.

Evaluation:
Compulsory work requirements must be approved in order to take the exam.
- Written Exam, 3 hours (counts 100%).
Regarding re-sit: - Re-sit examination for written exam in August. - In case of a failed compulsory assignements; these need to be re-taken the next time the course is running.

Required previous knowledge
The course is limited to students in the Bachelor in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Bachelor in web development and the one year program in Web Design
