About

About the course

Course content

This course explores what happens when you combine existing technologies to create experiences, where digital solutions meet the physical world.

Through the strategic use of design methodology and interaction design techniques, students will produce socially, environmentally and economically sound design solutions and demonstrate their qualities by developing prototypes.

Students work on concept development, design, construction and testing of an interactive environment.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, the student has a basic understanding of:

  • Interaction within virtual (VR), augmented (AR), and/or mixed (XR) environments.
  • 3D modeling.
  • The opportunity space that arises from combining digital and physical environments.
  • Methods, tools, and techniques required for developing concepts, designing, and evaluating interactive environments.

Skill Goals

After completing the course, the student has:

  • Basic skills in using relevant software.
  • The ability to combine digital and physical environments to create interactive solutions.

General Competence

  • The ability to identify an issue and propose solutions that are academically grounded and extend beyond the physical space.
  • The capacity to collaborate with others to assess a problem, and choose appropriate frameworks and methods for sketching/prototyping solution proposals.
  • The ability to critically reflect on the choice of solutions for a given or self-selected problem.
  • To be an active and constructive participant in a project, adhering to timelines, tasks, and collaboration with partners.
  • The capability to document a scientific work.

Learning methods and activities

The teaching methods in this course will include lectures, group-based guidance, project work and concept development, as well as testing and evaluating solutions together with users.

Mandatory Activities

  • Group assignment

Compulsory assignments

  • Project outline

Further on evaluation

The students have one mandatory group assignment in the course. The mandatory assignment must be approved in order to submit the final exam. The assignment consists of a project description and plan for the group and must be submitted before the project can begin.

Regarding the resit exam, the group may submit a new or improved version of the exam in the following semester.

For voluntary retake to improve the grade, the course must be retaken in its entirety during the next regular offering of the course.

Assessment: Group project 100%.
