About the course
Course content
The course will provide practical experience as both mentor and mentee connected to the coaching role in sports. The students must plan, carry out and evaluate activities in a chosen sport where you work in mentor pairs. The students must also be a mentee in the form of a "shadow coach", where you follow an established coach in a chosen sport for 3-4 weeks.
The subject emphasizes training in reflective processes linked to one's own coaching philosophy and the role of mentor and mentee, implementation and organization of activities, as well as the use of material from sports science.
Learning outcome
Knowledge objectives - the student shall:
- have insight into coaching practice in general and in a chosen sport.
- have insight into the role of mentor and mentee in sports practice
Skills objectives - the student shall be able to:
- develop, justify, convey and evaluate activity in a chosen sport.
- use observation and conversation as tools in the work to describe and assess coaching practice in a chosen sport.
Learning methods and activities
Practice in a chosen sport, shadow practice in the sport (coach), mentoring and seminars (start-up, mid-term and end).
Compulsory assignments
- Practice in sports hall
- Participation in seminar

Further on evaluation
Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.
Specific conditions
Admission to a programme of study is required:
Sport Sciences (MIDR)
Required previous knowledge
75 credits in Social Sciences and Sports Sciences or equivalent. The requirement must be fulfilled to be admitted to the course.
