Course content

The course is intended for students who want to conduct a research project in sports science based on social science perspectives. The subject teacher must approve each project and assign a tutor. The written report should contain an elaborated and reflective approach to the aim of the project, theory and research methods as well as a discussion of the results and implications. The thesis should be approximately 15-25 pages long (5500-10000 words).

Learning outcome

Knowledge – the student shall:
* be able to work independently with academic questions in the area of sports science.
* be able to demonstrate how theory and empirical knowledge are tied together in sports science research through the writing of an bachelor’s thesis in sports science.
* be able to write an academic work (bachelor’s thesis) which fulfills the basic requirements for scientific presentation and argumentation.

Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:
* limit the depth of a research issue, formulate a research problem, carry out an academically defensible analysis and report the results in the form of a bachelor’s dissertation in sports science.
* give an oral presentation on one’s own academic work.
* participate in critical, academic discussion on one’s own academic work.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures 2 hours pr. week in approxemately 5 weeks. Compulsory individual tutoring and seminars. Students present their own work and comment on other essays, including their own bachelor thesis. Form of assessment is the Bachelor thesis and oral examination. The oral examination may adjust the grade on the thesis by 1 unit.

Required previous knowledge

IDRSA1016 or IDRSA1017 or SOS1002, and three of the following courses: IDRSA1002, IDRSA1003, IDRSA1008, IDRSA1010, IDRSA1012, IDRSA1013, IDRSA1015, IDRSA1018 og IDRSA1019 or equivalent. The requirement must be fulfilled to be admitted to the course.
