About the course

Course content

The course consists of two parts:

1) Introduction to sensor systems: Design of a general measuring system. Static characteristics. Measurement accuracy. Sensor Technologies. Analysis of measurement systems.

2) Practical instrumentation: Construction of complete instrumentation systems. Development of virtual instruments. Use of data acquisition devices and programming development environment.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: After completing the course the candidate should be able to

- have broad knowledge of all individual elements of a typical sensor system

- describe the construction of a general measurement system

- describe and interpret static characteristics

- explain the behavior and characteristics of selected sensors

Skills: After completing the course, students should be able to

- design measurement systems that meet specified requirements

- program data acquisition and data presentation

General competence: After completing the course, students should be able to

- have insight into relevant issues within instrumentation

- evaluate specifications, design, construction, and operation of an instrumentation system

- be able to plan and carry out varied tasks and projects that extend over time, alone and as a participant in a group.

Mandatory work requirements: All of the laboratory work must be approved to be qualified for grading. The grade is calculated on basis of 3 project reports. Every report counts 33,33% for the end grade.

Electronic Systems Engineer - Engineering (BIELSYS)

Required previous knowledge

Access to the course requires registration as bachelor's degree in engineering, Electronic Systemengineer, NTNU, Trondheim
