Graphic communication: an introduction
Copy-editing and punctuation
Hyphenation and justification
Typefaces and detail in typography
The history of type and typography
The elements of the book and its architecture
Pagination: topic structure versus artifact structure
Access structure and navigation
Page design and composition
Learning outcome
The students will acquire a basic vocabulary and a basic working knowledge of typographic design - with an emphasis on book design.
