About the course

Course content

This course gives the student the opportunity to immerse themselves in a self-chosen topic and problem, either empirically or theoretically. The course can be set up so that it thematically supports the work with the master's thesis, but the student chooses this themselves.

The syllabus must be approximately 600-700 pages and must sufficiently take into account both breadth and depth within the chosen topic. Of these, 100 pages can be selected during the writing process and in collaboration with the supervisor.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

  • Have advanced knowledge of the development of the problem, as well as carry out a limited analysis and discussion of this
  • Have in-depth theoretical knowledge of the chosen topic

Skills:

  • can analyze the connection between issue and discussion
  • can write an academic assignment on an independent basis

General competence:

  • can apply professional knowledge and skills to carry out advanced analysis and discussion within a thematically relevant area

Learning methods and activities

Teaching method: An introductory seminar on the subject, work requirements and requirements for semester assignments. Up to two hours of individual supervision. The deadline for submitting applications for approval of topics and the appointment of a supervisor is 1st of March for the spring semester and 15th of October for the autumn semester.

Term paper. The paper must be an independent discussion of a specific problem, and it should contain about 4000-5000 words.

Compulsory activity must be approved in order to take the final exam in the course. The compulsory activities are approved for 4 years. If more than four years have passed since the approved compulsory activity, the student must carry out compulsory activities again in order to take the exam.

Disability and Society (MFUNKSAM)
Social work (MSARB)

Required previous knowledge

Requires admission to one of the master's programs in disability and society or social work. Students admitted to nearby master's programs can be admitted after individual assessment.

Course materials

The student chooses a topic and prepares a reading list of approximately 600-700 pages. The reading list must sufficiently take into account both breadth and depth within the chosen topic. Supervisor can assist with the selection of a reading list of up to 100 pages. The reading list must be approved before submission of the thesis.
