Course content

The course will enable students to make use of their social science background in the workplace. The course focuses on project management and communicative processes that accompany work in project groups. Students gain practical experience and professional knowledge related to

  • project management and project development,
  • work tools for planning, implementation and dissemination

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE At the end of the course, the student has knowledge of:

  • Basic principles and relevant tools for project management and project work
  • The process from a professional idea to the creation of a project or an innovative service
  • Importance of various forms of communication within and out from the project -work tools for planning, implementation and dissemination

 

SKILLS

At the end of the course, the student can:

  • Identify challenges related to communicative processes in different project processes
  • Communicate a project's ideas, goals, assumptions, challenges and solutions both verbally and in writing, and report the status and results of projects both verbally and in writing with regard to different recipients.
  • Practice self-management in a small project

Learning methods and activities

The course is practical and lectures are followed by exercises related to ongoing projects/own and others' master projects. The students work in groups. Exercises announced in Blackboard.

Portfolio assessment. Final assessment requires approval of four compulsory assignments. Compulsory attendance (minimum attendance 2/3 of the teaching). Students who can not attend teaching must pass a written exam with an extra optional curriculum.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Science and Technology Studies (STS) (MSTS)

Required previous knowledge

Students must have admission to the Master's program in MSTS (Studies of Knowledge, Technology and Society)
