About

About the course

Course content

Course curriculum is based on general introduction to mechanical engineering in particular. The subjects of interests are:

  • Systematic working techniques.
  • Introduction to 3D modelling and simple simulations.
  • Building of models and systems with the digital and manual tools.
  • Introduction to digitalization and sustainability.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The candidate has knowledge of:

  • the breadth of the mechanical engineering profession
  • methodology for design, modeling, and project management with fundamental elements from construction, processes, and operation of machines
  • manual and digital visualization and modeling tools

Skills

The candidate can:

  • use sketches and digital models as a working method in product development, model building, and system development
  • communicate the acquired knowledge to individuals with different backgrounds and expertise

General Competence

The candidate:

  • has insight into health, environment, and safety, and the consequences of chosen solutions within their field
  • can exchange information and experiences with others to plan and carry out a project with phases and milestones
  • is familiar with group processes and can carry out projects in teams
  • can communicate knowledge within their field to various target groups, both in writing and orally

Learning methods and activities

Pedagogical methods:

  • Individual assignments
  • Group work under supervision
  • Lectures on chosen topics
  • A practical course in chosen manufacturing and joining methods, which also includes training in health, environment, and safety (HSE).

Compulsory assignments

  • Mandatory assignments

Further on evaluation

Mandatory individual and group assignments must be approved during the semester. The project work is conducted in groups.

SHE course is documented by course attest. Individual training at the workshop in chosen manufacturing and joining methods documented by submitted reports with given template after training. It is a possibility to pre-approve individual workshop training if the student has a documented vocational education in relevant technical skills.
