About the course
Course content
The course provides a practical and theoretical introduction to different approaches within modern music production. This includes introduction to different combinations of analogue and digital signalflow, including Audio over IP, for recording and production of different ensembles. During the course the candidates will perform advanced production tasks within different musical genres. The course will also demonstrate and discuss different perspectives concerning the sound studio as a compositional and improvisational tool in interplay with different ensembles.

After completing the course the candidate should:
Knowledge
- Be able to get an overview of signal flow and functionality in a modern sound studio
- Be able to analyze and find knowledge on a detailed level concerning sound aesthetics and techniques within different music productions
- Be able to plan and construct sound systems that are prepared for compositional and improvisational interplay with acoustic and electronic instruments
- Be able to explain different techniques for recording and sound editing, and be able to make reflected choices independent of musical genre
- Be able to critically reflect upon their own practice, and be able to explain the connection between aesthetical choices and technical arrangements
Skills
- Be able to work flexible with signal flow and functionality in a modern sound studio
- Be able to communicate with musicians in the studio in a way that enhances the work situation and the music production.
- Be able to demonstrate different techniques for recording and sound editing, and be able to make reflected choices independent of musical genre.
- Be able to operate sound systems that are prepared for compositional and improvisational interplay with acoustic and electronic instruments
Learning methods and activities
The teaching is organized as workshops where different topics will be introduced before putting it into practice through different assignments.
There will be 4-6 exercises in addition to scheduled practical exercises.
Instruction is obligatory and demands minimum 80% attendance.

The portfolio consists of a substantial studio production combined with a written report. The portfolio will get an overall grade.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Creative Music Technology (MMUST)
Required previous knowledge
Requires admission to the Master's programme in Creative Music Technology. By sending an application to the department other students can get admission to the course.
