About the course

Course content

This course is an exclusive study over Charles Rosen’s famous book: The Classical Style from 1972. Accordingly it treats entire over Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven – what they composed, the forms, styles and genres – sonata, symphony, concert, variation and opera. The purpose is to elucidate a musical style that had a radical influence in the aftertime.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:
A candidate who successfully completes MUSV 3111
– will have an increased knowledge of the Classical Style.
– will have an increased knowledge of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven
– will have an increased knowledge of Sonata form.
– will have an increased knowledge of analysis as a tool in music history study.

– can formulate his/her knowledge in both written and spoken forms.

– has increased knowledge about the wiener classical music.

Learning methods and activities

This course contains lectures and seminars in which the students are supposed to actively participate.
