About the course

Course content

The course provides an overview of the factors that affect states' failure and success in management of petroleum resources. The Norwegian model for petroleum management will be the framework of the course, and the main features of the Norwegian model will be reviewed and evaluated against alternative models applied in developing countries. Petroleum management will be assessed both from the perspective of political economy and the perspective of ethics.

Learning outcome

Knowledge - the students shall:
- Gain an overview over Norwegian petroleum management
- Gain knowledge about the political, social and ethical challenges associated with natural resource management
Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:
- Formulate scientifically valid, relevant and manageable research questions and projects

Learning methods and activities

Lectures 2 hours per week and group teaching 2 hours per week. The language of instruction is English. If less than 6 students attend the course in the first weeks of teaching, the course will be given as an individual study course with supervision.
