About the course

Course content

The course provides an introduction to work and organisational psychology (WOP). The content offers an overview of major WOP topics, such as occupational health, leadership, and motivation. Upon completion, students will have knowledge of key theories and concepts in WOP and will be able to apply them to practical problems. The course also explores the interface between organisational and clinical sciences.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The student

  • has knowledge of central theories and consepts within work and organisational psychology
  • has knowledge of connections between work and health and how health can be strengthened or worsened through work.
  • have knowledge of how psychological, social, societal, and physical factors work together to inhibit or promote people's occupational health and work engagement.
  • has knowledge of principles for management, and the role of the leader in organizations and systems
  • develops more in-depth knowledge of specific topics the student chooses to focus on in the term paper.

Skills:

The student

  • can apply knowledge of management principles to exercise leadership
  • can plan and implement measures that promote occupational health at individual and group levels

General competence:

The student

  • can reflect critically on issues related to work and organisational psychology, such as what promotes or undermines occupational health and effective leadership.
  • has competence in carrying out professional presentations based on their own research questions.
  • can address solutions to practical problems encountered in organizational settings.
  • can write a theoretical paper that meets APA standards.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, workshops and student presentations. Some lectures might be taught in English

Compulsory assignments

  • 80% Mandatory attendance
  • Oral group presentation

Further on evaluation

Both the compulsory activity "oral presentation" and the "term paper/assignment" are to be completed in groups.

Compulsory activities from previous semesters may be approved by the department.
