About

About the course

Course content

The course enables students to apply knowledge to critically examine and develop the subject of physical education (PE) across different contexts. The course involves acquiring theory and reflecting on experiences related to PE, with a focus on both global and local perspectives. Students will explore historical, current, and future orientations of PE, and engage with core concepts such as physical literacy, motivation, and human movement.

Students will work with scientific literature to understand and communicate research-based knowledge and critically reflect on what constitutes quality PE. A key component is becoming well informed about local governing documents related to PE teaching and understanding how these documents can be used as a foundation for designing quality PE in one's own context. The course also develops students’ ability to critically evaluate the role of digital technology in PE, with emphasis on meaningful, appropriate, and pedagogically sound use. Through observation -of authentic PE lessons in 360 recording-, reflection, and dialogue, students will formulate and assess didactic approaches to quality PE informed by research, practice, and policy.
