Course content

Point estimation, interval estimation and hypothesis testing for one- and two-sample normal
data based on t, chi square and F distributions. Hypothesis testing in binomial models. Simple
linear regression and analysis of variance for normal data. Goodness of fit and non-parametric
tests.

Learning outcome

1. Knowledge. The student has a good knowledge about point estimation, confidence intervals
and hypothesis testing, inference for one- and two-sample normal and for binomial models. The student
also has a good knowledge about simple linear regression, analysis of variance and some
nonparametric tests.
2. Skills. The student can recognise and analyse data from standard statistical situations.
The student is able to discuss more complicated situations. Some use of statistical software.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and compulsory exercises. Written final examination is the basis for the grade
awarded in the course. The re-sit examination may be given as an oral examination.

Compulsory assignments

  • Øvinger

Further on evaluation

In the case that the student receives an F/Fail as a final grade after both ordinary and re-sit exam, then the student must retake the course in its entirety. Submitted work that counts towards the final grade will also have to be retaken. For more information about grading and evaluation, see «Teaching methods and activities».

Specific conditions

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.
