About the course
Course content
Carbohydrates, polysaccharides. Amino acids and chemical structure of proteins. Enzymes, kinetics and mechanism. Carbohydrate metabolism. Principles for energy transfer in living cells. Lipid metabolism including biosynthesis and degradation of fatty acids. Nucleic acid structure, replication, transcription and protein biosyntheses.
Learning outcome
At the completion of this course, the students are expected to be able to give a basic introduction to:
- the chemical structure and function of biomolecules
- metabolism, energy generation and transfer in the cell
- molecular genetics and protein biosynthesis.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. Mandatory laboratory.
