About the course

Course content

The scientific method, models, measurements and units; motion and force in one and two dimensions, Newton's laws, work and mechanical energy, conservation laws for energy and linear momentum, basic oscillations and basic statics; forces and pressure in fluids; internal energy, first law of thermophysics and phase transitions; basic electrical circuits, current, voltage and resistance; atomic structure, basic radiation physics and nuclear physics.

Learning outcome

With a passed exam / assessment in the subject, the candidate must have the following total learning outcomes defined in the form of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

-The candidate has knowledge of physical topics that are fundamental to technological subjects.

-The candidate is familiar with sentral methods in physics and is able to explain the most important terms from mechanics, thermophysics, electricity theory, atom physics and radiation physics.

-The cadidate has knowledge of requirements for conducting experiments.

Skills

-The candidate can formulate and solve given problems related to kinmatics, dynamics and statics.

-The candidate can formulate and solve given problems related to work, power, oscillations, fluid statics, thermophysics, basic electrical circuits and conservation of mechanical energy and linear momentum.

-The candidate can perform calculations on quantities and units in the SI system and is able to make transformations between different units.

-The candidate can associate variables, used in idealized models, with real quantities in physics.

-The candidate can conduct experiments in a qualified and safe way, make measurements, interpret results and ocument the results.

-The candidate is familar with basic numerical solution techniques.

General comptence:

-The candidate can explain principles of scientific procedures.

-The candidate can motivate and justify professional choices and convey this to others in terms of consptions and units in physics

-The candidate understands the connection between physics and technological applications.

-The candidate understands the ambitions in physics to create quantitative models of natural phenomena.
