Learning outcome

Knowledge

Candidates who have passed this course have knowledge of:

- English as a tool for good communication.

- academic writing and English as an academic language.

- the role cultural elements have in communication processes.

Skills

Candidates who have passed this course can:

- write clearly and grammatically correct.

- listen to, understand and use academic language when producing written and oral texts.

- use English subject terminology in written and oral communication in various contexts and purposes relevant for an engineer.

- write reasoning texts, such as discussions and reports.

- write various types of functional texts adapted to purpose, recipient and situation, such as letters, applications, e-mails, notes, instructions, summaries - of both own and others' texts - and presentations with a good structure and flow.

- plan, structure and give presentations and instructions.

General competence

Candidates who have passed this course can:

- in an independent manner express themselves both in writing and orally in contexts relevant for an engineer.

- understand English sources and use such sources in a critical and accountable manner.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, group work, projects, self-activity, fellow student assessment, use of ICT. Oral and written learning activities.
