Course content
Basics of cryptography. Classical cryptosystems. Modern symmetric cryptography. Public key cryptography. RSA. Primality testing and factoring algorithms. Diffie-Hellmann key exchange. ElGamal cryptosystem. Algorithms for finding discrete logarithms. Quadratic residues, Legendre and Jacobi symbols, quadratic reciprocity law. Basic digital signature protocols. Introduction to elliptic curves and cryptography.
Learning outcome
The course presents main topics in the algebraic cryptography and some mathematical background.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. Retake of examination may be given as an oral examination.

The course is based on TMA4150 Algebra and Number Theory or similar background from algebra, or MA2201 Algebra.
