About the course

Course content

The following topics will be addressed:
- Anthropometry and strain
- Design of input and output for the senses
- Cognitive aspects of design
- Uses analysis, personas and scenarios
- Task analysis methods
- Contextual studies of use
- Participatory design using among others sketching, modeling and role playing
Universal design will be highlighted in all these topics.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The ability to use knowledge of the body, movement, perception and cognition in design. Implementation of user-centered design processes. Methods for the analysis of users. Methods for task analysis. Methods for analysis of the context of use, including ethnographic analysis. User involvement in design. Designing for user experience.

Skills: Master the techniques of the analysis of users, user activities and usage context. Be able to convert knowledge about people to design the product, activity and adventure.

General qualifications: The candidate should have practical experience with user-centered product design.

Learning methods and activities

Three exercises will give students practical experience with the three main themes:
- Information Ergonomics and cognition
- User-centered design
- Universal design
Lectures will present the theory and methods that can be used in the project.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Industriell design (MTDESIG)
