About the course

Course content

Students will practice their skills in designing products, focused on innovative, sustainable and good use of wooden materials. The interplay between aesthetics, function, wooden materials and production processes is central. The main focus is design of single objects, interior design elements and building components. One or more assignments where students experiment with different wooden materials and production processes. Working with sketch models and prototypes is emphasised.

The candidate

  • Is familiar with the different properties of wood as a material in products and have knowledge of processing and joining of wood.

Skills:

The candidate can

  • design products, focusing on the interaction between aesthetics, function, wood materials and manufacturing processes.

General qualifications:

The candidate has

  • completed training in the use of prototype workshop for woodworking.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures and supervised projects. A verbal presentation of the results is included in the project assignments. This course is offered to incoming exchange students and will be taught in English if necessary.

Further on evaluation

The students will design a products, interior design elements or building components in wood, and present this product orally.

For a re-take of an examination, all assessments during the course must be re-taken.

Specific conditions

Required previous knowledge

The course is reserved for master students in Industrial Design and Architecture. The number of students is limited to 25, allocation of places is done in accordance with Forskrift om opptak til studier ved NTNU. The deadline to sign up for the course is June 1st.
