About
Examination arrangement
Examination arrangement: Written examination
Grade: Letters
Evaluation | Weighting | Duration | Grade deviation | Examination aids |
---|---|---|---|---|
Written examination | 100/100 | 4 timer |
Course content
Physics: Magnetism, electromagnetic induction, AC circuits, electromagnetic waves and radioactivity.
Geophysics: Reflection and refraction seismics, gravimetry and magnetometry, electrical and electromagnetic methods.
Learning outcome
Ingress:
The students should know how physics and geophysics are used to map the interior of the earth and especially the upper 10 km of earths crust.
Knowledge:
The students should understand the main principles behind geophysical measuring techniques and how these methods are exploited for improved understanding of onshore and offshore subsurface.
Skills:
The students should be capable of deriving basic geophysical equations. They should also be able to perform simple geophysical computations. Furthermore, it is expected that they should know how to use computational tools, as for instance Matlab for geophysical analysis.
General competence:
The students should understand that basic physics laws may be exploited in a variety of disciplines. They should also be trained to use self criticism, and to present work to others.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures and exercises. 2/3 of the exercises must be approved before the exam. If there is a re-sit examination, the form of assessment may be changed from written to oral examination.
Compulsory assignments
