About

About the course

Course content

The course gives an introduction to the analysis of elementary analog and digital circuits. It will provide a basis for understanding and constructing simple systems built using analog and digital electronic circuit elements. Key topics: current, voltage, energy and power, Kirchhoff's laws, analysis methods for lineær static circuits, resistance, capacitance, inductance, diodes, MOSFET transistor as a switch, operational amplifiers, transient analysis, binary arithmetic, Boolean algebra, logic gates, combinatorial and sequential digital circuits.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

The student can explain

  • the relationship between basic circuit quantities
  • the function and operation of simple electronic systems
  • the relationship between digital and analog components and systems

Skills:

  • The student can analyze simple electronic circuits using appropriate circuit laws, simplifications and models.
  • The student can design, simulate, implement and test simple electronic systems.

Generell competance:

  • The student can take an active role in their own learning through wondering, reflection and discussion.

Learning methods and activities

The course uses student-active learning methods. Central to the course are ERT sessions (ERT = Experience Reflection Training) where students get

  • practical experience with electronic components and circuits using personal lab equipment
  • training in analysis and modeling of electronic circuits
  • opportunity to discuss with fellow students and supervisors and reflect on their own learning

In addition, there are auditorium sessions where knowledge is summarized, expanded upon and discussed in plenary.

Compulsory assignments

  • Exercises

Further on evaluation

The course has exams in both in autumn and spring semester (no re-sit exam in August).

Course materials

To be announced at the start of the term.
