Course content

The course provides an overview of, and discusses what promotes or inhibits development and innovation in organisations. The focus will be on change and development in organisations and on discussion of how such processes can be facilitated. Key concepts related to the innovation research field will be treated in the course. The course draws on both individual and systemic perspectives. Based on concrete examples and theory, the implications of knowledge in working with change, development and innovation in an organisation will be discussed. Actual research projects within the field will be used as examples.

Learning outcome

Through this course the student will gain insight into change and development, and develop knowledge on how innovation happens in established organisations. The student will acquire knowledge about planned organisational change, form an overview of the innovation field and gain insight into how employees can contribute to innovation (employee-driven innovation). The student will be able to use this knowledge to lead, participate in and facilitate innovation, change and development in organisations. In addition the student will acquire insight into how research is conducted in this particular field.

Learning methods and activities

Session based teaching. Lectures and seminars.
Form of assessment: a 3 day home exam paper of 8-10 pages (A4, line spacing 1,5, Times New Roman 12 pt.)

This course is offered in the spring semester, but as a transitional arrangement it will be offered in the autumn semester 2014 as an instructed reading course, for full time students on the Master`s programme in Adult Learning who startet in 2013. Full time students on the program who wish to take this course as an instructed reading course in the autumn semester 2014 can contact the department for information about how to sign up.

Compulsory assignments

  • Partizipation in 80% of the teaching program

Specific conditions

Required previous knowledge

As for admission to the Master's programme in Adult Learning. Admission to the course is restricted. All students must register in STUDWEB within 1st June (autumn semester) and 1st December (spring semester) if they want to take a course with restricted admission. This procedure must also be followed by students admitted to a programme of study where the course is obligatory. Students admitted to the particular programme of study will be given priority.
