About the course

Course content

The course provides the student with an insight in research methods relevant for the Master of science in Counselling and the Master of Science in Learning in Working Life and Society. This includes the presentation and discussion of methodology, philosophy of science and research ethics, as well as principles and challenges.

There will be a particular focus on analysis of empirical materials within the research process. The term paper should be a discussion of a methodological research question. The paper can be related to the research question and choice of method for the planned master's thesis. The student is obliged to choose her/his own curriculum in relation to the paper.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The student has developed advanced knowledge in methodological and ethical challenges.

Skills: The student is able to critically and autonomously present, reflect on and assess research, and can carry out practical assignments.

General competence: The student has specialized insight into and understanding of methodology, philosophy of science and research ethics.

Compulsory assignments

  • Participation in class 80%
  • Approved exercises.
  • Approved list of chosen curriculum for the term paper

Further on evaluation

Term paper of about 15 pages (A4, line spacing 1,5, Times New Roman 12 pt.). Both relevant compulsory curriculum and chosen curriculum should be used in the paper.
