About the course

Course content

Together with the vocational subject and the professional subject, the practical training will provide a basis for education at grades 8-13. The practical training includes vocational practice in a company/enterprise and vocational pedagogical practice in upper secondary education.

The purpose of the course is to further develop the student’s prerequisites for providing vocationally relevant education and to view the teaching role from a societal and developmental perspective.

Learning outcome

Knowledge The student has:

  • knowledge of the school’s mandate and the vocational teacher’s role in the school, workplace, and society
  • knowledge of learning processes relevant to professional practice and can further develop their knowledge in these areas
  • knowledge of governing documents, legislation, relevant research, and development work in school and workplace

Skills The student can:

  • plan, implement, evaluate, and document vocational change and development work in school and workplace
  • plan, justify, and lead practical and varied training in school and company/organization
  • assess academic and social development in interaction with students and apprentices, and contribute to self-reflection

General Competence The student can:

  • plan, implement, evaluate, and document development work in practice based on research, theory, and experience from school and company/organization
  • document their own vocational teacher competence
  • act professionally and reflect on academic, vocational didactic, and vocational ethical issues to promote academic and social learning and development

Learning methods and activities

Duration of practice: The total number of practice days is 40 days, divided into 20 days in company / business and 20 days in school practice within 8th-13th grade. A minimum of 10 days of school practice must be completed during the 6th semester in connection with the bachelor's thesis.

All practices are mandatory and must be supervised. The final assessment in the course is a comprehensive assessment of professional practice and teaching practice related to learning outcomes, which includes associated reports and practice follow-up.

Compulsory assignments

  • 20 days of completed vocational teaching practice (spring/autumn)
  • 20 days of completed practice in a company/business (spring/autumn)
