Matriculation ceremony – welcome ceremony for new students at NTNU

Location: Behind the main building

You will participate in this formal ceremony together with your buddy group. The ceremony will include musical performances, speeches and you will get a glimpse into life as a student at NTNU.

Start-up meeting for Music Performance Studies

For whom: All students (all years) and staff, Music Performance Studies

Where: Dokkhuset (NB! New venue, due to water damage in Kammersalen!)

This meeting will be held in Norwegian

MA students will take part in parts of the JAZZLINJA-PANGSTART 2023 programme:
 
Monday August 21 at Dokkhuset (no need to bring instruments)
Time: 13:00-14:15 and 15:15-16:00
16:00 Swimming in the ocean? Bring your swimming gear!
20:00 Jam session at Dokkhuset (Bar area, Dokkhuset arrangement)
 
Tuesday Augsut 22 at the jazz annex 
Time: 10:00-12:00 Bring your instrument!

19:30 Jam session at Antikvariatet (Antijazz arrangement)

In week 34, classical string and wind students are involved in a project with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. Piano, song, gitar etc have other projects. You will find more information on this web page (in Norwegian) and from your teachers. 

August 29:

For whom: Only 2. year MA students
When: Tuesday August 29 at 09:30am
Where: Ringve Museum (Viktoriasalen)

For whom: All MA students
When: Tuesday August 29 at 10:30am-15:00pm
Where: Ringve Museum (Viktoriasalen)

  • 2nd year: Prepare for a max 5 minute presentation of your artistic in-depth project for 1st year students.
  • 11:30 Lunch: Bring your own, we will eat outside or get a room.
  • 12:00 - about 14:00 : “How can rooms inspire concert forms?” Workshop with staff at Ringve, we look at the different rooms and exhibitions, discuss ideas for creating concerts and musical projects inspired by rooms and surroundings. We are invited to come back to Ringve and Rockheim with musical projects.
  • 14:00 - If the weather is fine, there are perfect bathing and picnic possibilities at Ringvebukta, very close. If not, perhaps there are other ideas for socializing.


August 30:

Join Buddy week and meet new friends from the first day of studies! All new students can participate.

The student society for music performance studies is called Notelinjeforeningen

During the Orientation week, you will get to know NTNU, your city and other international students in fun ways, and learn everything you need to know to get started in Norway and settle in at NTNU. The Office of International Relations arranges the orientation week.

(PS! The activities during "Orientation Week for new students" are optional, and some of them might collide with mandatory meetings or activities at the Department of music. When in doubt, contact your student advisor.)

NTNU has various part-time classes to help you learn Norwegian as a second language, including a free online course. 

Exchange students can join a 3-week intensive summer course in August.
