This specialization focuses on how life in the ocean works.
You can study marine biology, oceanography, ecology, and biogeochemistry. Key fields include planktonic and benthic ecosystems, food webs, and trophic interactions. You can also explore major environmental challenges such as coastal eutrophication and the effects of climate change, including carbon export and storage.
This specialization offers opportunities to work with microorganisms, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and marine animals in both shallow and deep waters. We also use modern tools such as underwater and surface robots, as well as satellites, to conduct research in demanding environments.
Aquaculture is an important part of this track. Here, you can study salmon and seaweed farming in both sea-based and land-based systems, including RAS (recirculating aquaculture systems). Fish health, welfare, and environmental impact are central focus areas. Topics include salmon lice control, cleaner fish, live feed production, larval development, physiology, and water treatment.
In this specialization, you will gain hands-on experience through projects and collaboration with leading research groups and aquaculture companies.
This track prepares you for careers in marine research, environmental monitoring, ecosystem analysis, and sustainable aquaculture.
