Career opportunities
Norway lacks acoustic engineers—especially in the consultancy sector. The market is growing, requirements are tightening. If you choose acoustics, you’ll step straight into a field where your skills are needed.
What does this mean for you?
Today, employers recruit acousticians from abroad—for example from Sweden, Spain, and Germany. When qualified candidates aren’t available, companies hire MSc engineers from other disciplines and train them in acoustics. Choose acoustics, and you’ll be the person they’re looking for.
You can work as a:
- consultant in sectors such as buildings, transport, energy, and more
- specialist in public agencies such as Statsbygg, Forsvarsbygg, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen), Bane NOR, Avinor, the Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet), Standards Norway, and county/municipal administrations
- specialist in manufacturing—for measurement and multimedia equipment, sonar and other ultrasound equipment, mechanical industries, etc.
- researcher at universities and research institutes: NTNU, SINTEF, the Institute of Marine Research, NGI, NGU, CMI, and more
- lecturer at universities and university colleges
