Programme structure - Sound and Vibration - Master's Programme
Programme structure
Master of Science in Sound and Vibration is a two-year full-time programme of study (120 ECTS). The programme is offered in Trondheim. In this programme, you have the opportunity to specialise in sound and vibration, with at least 15 ECTS in acoustics each semester.
General structure
Across the two years, there are four compulsory courses. The rest are electives that you choose based on your interests. An exchange semester is facilitated in a country that offers acoustics education in the 2nd or 3rd semester.
1st year of study
The first year consists mainly of general courses in sound and vibration. You begin an individual project in the second semester.
2nd year of study
In the second year, you can specialise in one of the following areas:
- Marine Acoustics
- Acoustic Signal Processing
- Acoustics in the Built Environment
Marine Acoustics and Acoustic Signal Processing share many courses and typically lead to different career paths than Acoustics in the Built Environment.
The programme concludes with a master’s thesis in which you carry out independent scientific research or development work under the supervision of an academic member of staff.
Exchange opportunities
You have the option to spend a semester abroad. We encourage you to take a semester at a foreign university. NTNU has strong partner universities in Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, Sweden, Finland, and France, as well as in the UK, Canada, and the USA.
