Expected learning outcome

Expected learning outcome

A candidate who has successfully completed a 3-year PhD programme in Mathematical Sciences is expected to possess the following total learning outcome defined in the form of knowledge, skills and general competence:

Knowledge

  • After graduation, the candidate should be at the forefront of knowledge in his or her subject area.
  • The candidate should be able to evaluate the use of different methods in the field, and should be able to contribute to the development of new knowledge, new theories and new methods.

Skills

  • After graduation, the candidate should be able to formulate questions for, and plan and carry out research at a high international level in his or her subject area.

General Competence

  • After graduation, the candidate should be able to conduct his or her research with professional and ethical integrity.
  • The candidate should be able to communicate his or her research via recognized national and international channels, and to manage complex interdisciplinary projects.
  • The candidate should be able to assess the need for and take the initiative to drive innovation.
