Course content

The course deals with advanced choral- and ensemble management, arrangement and composition related to the usual choral management tasks required of a church musician. The Department's church choir functions as the rehearsal ensemble. During the academic year at least one larger project is undertaken, where students have the opportunity to study and lead a choir/ensemble in a church service/concert.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The candidate:

  • has knowledge of vocal techniques, voice development and choir sound
  • has knowledge about choir warming up- and interpretation- techniques
  • has knowledge about old and more recent church music repertoire and performing traditions.

Skills:

The candidate:

  • can express musical intentions through conducting choir and ensembles
  • has basic skills in conducting techniques adequate for conducting choir and ensembles in various church musical occations.
  • has developed independence in planning, rehearsing technique and performances.

Learning methods and activities

Groups - 2 hours pr. week for 6 weeks each semester. Singing as a support instrument. Attendance in the Department of Music's church choir for 2 hours a week.

Compulsory assignments

  • Satisfactory participation in compulsory lectures
  • Participation in IM's motet choir
  • Course in singing

Further on evaluation

Final examination shold be about 30 minutes, including the rehearsal of an unknown piece of work with at least one week preparation.
