About saepmie

Team Saepmie aims to establish an inclusive and interdisciplinary research network for Sámi topics at NTNU. We want to encourage interdisciplinary initiatives and joint research applications in response to the lack of representation of Sámi topics. We will organize seminars, workshops, and various networking activities to strengthen NTNU’s role in reconciliation and contribute to meeting the expectations the Sámi community has for research and education at NTNU.

We invite you to become a member of Team Saepmie. There are two ways to participate, and your level of involvement can be changed later:

Active team member: Your name will be listed on the Team Saepmie website under TSO Community. We expect participation in events and a short description of your research interests in our Teams space.
Interested: You will join the Teams space but will not be listed on the website. You may upload a description of your research interests if you wish.

Team Saepmie – Activities Academic Year 2025–2026

Research Funding & Projects	Successful NFR application: SAMSAM – Samisk samhandling; INTERREG Aurora project on South Sámi history; two NTNU Community seed-funded projects (Sørsamiske deltakelse i midtskandinaviske handelspraksiser fra middelalderen til 1645 and Semiotic Landscapes of Europe’s Indigenous and Minoritised Languages); NFR proposal on Norwegian resource interests and Sámi survival; several additional national funding applications and partnerships.
Publications, Scholarly Outputs & Public Dissemination	Among others, forthcoming article on Nils-Aslak Valkeapää's work; publication on Responsible Mining and Indigenous perspectives; thematic issue Samer og opphavsfortellinger (2026); conference paper Colonizing Indigenous Transnationality; book reviews and academic commentaries; articles, interviews and debate contributions published in Khrono, Universitetsavisa, Ávvir, Ságat and Nordnorsk Debatt; launch of Team Saepmie's Instagram account.
Conferences & Academic Events	Team Saepmie kick-off workshop (September 2025); workshop on Indigenous history, colonialism and decolonization; organized session on Sámi history and colonialism at the Norwegian Historians' Meeting; participation in national Sámi research and teacher-education networks; guest lectures and research seminars.
Teaching & Capacity Building	Contributions to HIST1505; integration of Sámi perspectives into teacher education; development of learning resources and curriculum initiatives; collaboration with schools and Sámi institutions.
PhD and Research Training	Recruitment of a new PhD candidate; development of doctoral research capacity within Sámi and Indigenous studies; proposal for the doctoral course Educational Research Otherwise: Reimagining Knowledge-Making with Indigenous Perspectives.
Public Engagement & Outreach	Strong media presence through interviews, feature articles, opinion pieces and public debate on Sámi research, education, reconciliation and Indigenous perspectives; active dissemination through social media and public events.
Institutional Development & Service	Contributions to the revision of NTNU language-policy guidelines; work related to Sámi visibility and representation at NTNU; participation in advisory groups and national consultation processes concerning Indigenous issues.
Collaboration & Networks	Collaborations with Nord University, VID, Mid Sweden University, University of Bergen, Université Paris Cité, Indigenous organizations and national teacher-education networks; strengthened international and cross-border cooperation. Collaboration with Trondheim District on ethical research guidelines.
Community & Cultural Engagement	Participation in Sámi Month activities; Sámi city walk; museum and exhibition collaborations; guest lectures in archaeology, history and Indigenous studies; activities supporting Sámi cultural heritage and visibility.
