About

https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9755-8398

I am an Associate Professor in the Institute for Languages and Literature at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) where I teach linguistics to interpreting students.

Competencies

  • Interpreting
  • Multilingualism
  • Second language acquisition

Research

I am interested in the acquisition of signed languages by adult learners and the psycholinguistic factors that affect signed language processing in multilinguals. More recently I have become involved in documentation and corpus development of Norwegian Sign Language.

Areas for peer review in no particular order: reference, gesture, sound symbolism, iconicity, depiction, bilingualism, multilingualism, sign language, interpreting, bimodal language acquisition.

DEPICT

Signed Language Depiction as an Engine for Promoting Inclusion, Communication, and Translation (DEPICT) investigates how depiction supports and enhances Norwegian sign language.

Language use in the Norwegian Deaf community: reflections of a signed language ecology

The goal of the project is to research how deaf signers use this language, and how this use reflects the specific physical, social, historical and emerging characteristics of the Norwegian deaf community.
