About

Bjørn-Terje Bandlien (Ph.D.) is an associate professor of music at NTNU, Department of Teacher Education. He teaches and supervises at undergraduate, master's and PhD levels in musicology and music didactic subjects. His doctoral thesis (2019) was about secondary school students' composing with GarageBand on iPad in a critical design theoretical perspective. From 2019, he has also worked with kulturskole-related research, and with particular emphasis on collaboration between primary school and kulturskole. In this context, he participates in the Norwegian Kulturskole Council's R&D work, and is project leader and editor for a project where kulturskole-employees research their own practices. From 2022, Bandlien participates in the DIKU project Unikup- Universitetskulturskole; a collaboration between the Department of Teacher Education at NTNU, the Department of Music at NTNU and Trondheim Kulturskole. Here he leads a work package on cooperation between primary school and cultural school, and the belonging research group "Kulturskole-compulsory school-collaboration" (KGS).

He also participates in the research groups Academic literacy in school and teacher education, and MusTed - Music Technology in Didactic Practice, and in the editorial team of the Journal for research in arts and sports education (JASEd).

Bandlien has a background as an teacher and lecturer with a major in music from NTNU, Department of Music (2007) and Practical Pedagogical Education (PPU), NTNU (1998). He has worked as a teacher in folk high school and primary school in the period 1999-2013, as well as as a performing church musician with piano and organ as an instrument from about 1994.

From 2013, Bandlien has worked with teacher education at Sør-Trøndelag University College (HIST), Department of Teacher and Interpreter Education (ALT) and NTNU, Department of Teacher Education (ILU). In the period 2015–2016, he was section coordinator for the Music Section at ALT, and from 2017–2021 group leader for music, dance, drama / theater at ILU.
