Charlotte Fiskum

About

Background as a clinical psychologist with two specializations, one in clinical community psychology and the other in child and adolescent psychology. Trained in EMDR and somatic trauma-therapy.

Ph.D. in psychology from NTNU with a focus on intersubjective psychotherapy, autonomic regulation, heart rate variability and psychopathology in children.

I am particularly interested in the intersection of mind-body-context and regulation in psychopathology. I am very interested in innovative research on transdiagnostic interventions that can strengthen basic regulation. This includes systematic use of nature, breath-work, physical activity, animal-assisted therapy, music, song, and dyadic co-regulation and neuromodulation. The goal is to contribute to developing and quality-testing low-cost interventions that can be used in low-treshold interventions across systems and with groups less likely to access or benefit from talk-therapy.

I currently focus a lot of my time on behavioral and non-behavioral addictions within a trauma- and neuroscience-informed regulatory framework.

I like to throw in complexity/chaos theory and system critique where I can. I am always up for a discussion on decapitalist and decolonial perspectives on quality of life and health for all. Almost always wish I lived on a mountain.

Ongoing research projects:

What is it about the horse? (Implementering av hesteassisterte intervensjoner i Dialectic Behavioural Therapy). In collaboration with Sykehuset Innlandet Hospital trust.

Psychotherapy with horses in substance use disorders. In collaboration with Kirkens bymisjon.

Drug use and regulation: Searching for the window of tolerance. Development of a regulation-based intervention model for substance-use disorders. In collaboration with St. Olavs Hospital.

Outreach work and regulation. Investigation of regulatory thinking in outreach work with vulnerable young people at risk. In collaboration with Trondheim and Bergen municipalities.

Interoception and trauma. Investigation of links between trauma and interoception.

Internalized weight bias and trauma. Investigation of links between trauma, weight and internalization of weight stigma.

Project-member as a specialist/researcher:

Confident Body, Confident Child / Trygge Kropper, Trygge Barn. Prevention of childhood obesity, body image difficulties and eating disorders. In collaboration with Trine Tetlie Eik-Nes at the Department of Neuromedicine and Movement Science, Trondheim Municipality, and Harvard University.

MHOBY (Mental Health and Obesity). I am a specialist and researcher in the project MHOBY (led by Trine Tetlie Eik-Nes) which develops and tests new treatments for binge eating disorder with an emphasis on trauma and body-based interventions.

Planned projects:

Neuromodulation and regulation. Can the use of tools such as tVNS or tDCS affect regulation positively across conditions?

Completed projects:

Autonomic regulation and psychological difficulties in children.

Right-right hemispheric psychotherapy. Examination of change after time-limited intersubjective child psychotherapy.
