Jan Frode Haugseth
About
Jan Frode Haugseth is an Associate Professor of Education at the Department of Teacher Education, NTNU. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from 2012, awarded by the Department of Sociology and Political Science, NTNU. Haugseth's research focuses on youth, upbringing, media, and education through the lens of engagement theory.
Haugseth was a visiting scholar at the Department of Sociology, UC Berkeley (2024/25) and was conducting a comparative research project exploring how young people, both within and outside education and employment, navigate social inclusion in Scandinavia and California. The study is grounded in engagement theory and examines how personal, structural, and cultural factors shape young people's opportunities for participation. The project combines interviews, observations, and ethnographic participation.
