BULKIS: Children and young people's quality of life in school and upbringing

Children and young people are often neglected by researchers. The research group BULKIS aims to produce research-based knowledge about children and young people's quality of life in school and upbringing. Central to the research group are children and young people's own perspectives, and pedagogical and special educational questions about children and young people's lives.

The research group has two main functions:

  1. development of a strong research environment in the area of children and young people's quality of life. The research group aims to create an environment with room for other participants among the scientific staff, master's students, research fellows and postdocs.
  2. development of a joint research project with subprojects. The group has a joint research project related to questions about what children and young people perceive as quality of life, and what significance quality of life has for schooling, for learning (formal, institutional) and about the relationship between life in and out of school: What does quality of life mean for school life and school life for quality of life ? These are experiences of, for example, belonging, friendship, play and leisure, digital and social media, assessment practices, etc. The project is based on the idea that we should do research with and not just on students, children and young people.

The project is based on various methodological and theoretical approaches to the field. The project focuses on children and young people in both urban schools and schools in the countryside.
