The competence framework

The competence framework defines the minimum achievements necessary to make sure that social workers are not only aware of the human rights dimension of their intervention - but are also capable of identifying the main existing international legal standards (with specific reference to the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union) and addressing human rights violations as such, recognizing their social harm impact, while supporting vulnerable people to claim for their rights, addressing them to different services and stakeholders. This indicates that social workers who recognize the human rights dimension of their practice may, after completing the course aligned with the current  learning outcomes, be motivated to further engage with this dimension, getting in-depth insights of advocacy and activism.

The competence framework is structured around clearly defined learning outcomes — which articulate what learners should know, understand, and the skills learners are expected to demonstrate upon completion of the course.

The online learning course 

The course supports the students in getting competence on the role of human rights in promoting inclusion, non-discrimination, and combating all forms of phobia in the places of study and work. It will provide participating students with the opportunity to develop transversal skills such as empathy, lateral thinking, and critical thinking, as well as improve their ability to recognize and prevent situations of human rights violations.
The course consists of 5 Modules:

• Literacy on human rights and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU
• Ethics and Value-based, Human Rights-based approaches to Social Work
• From Stereotypes to Invisible Racism
• Intersectionality and intercultural sensitivity
• Non-violent communication 

Each module will last 90 minutes. Modules composed of two sections will last 180 minutes. Each module consists of:

• An introduction to present the topics of the module 
• Reference to the learning outcomes, as defined in FRIDAS’ Framework of competences
• Main contents of the modules
• Multimedia materials to support students' and practitioners’ acquisition of competencies:

1.   Papers and chapters to read,
2.   A toolkit and a handbook to practice,
3.   Video and presentations to watch.

• Test for the self-assessment of acquired competences.
