Deaf-led plays by Sign Language Interpreter Trust (SLIT) and Deaf Arts National Culture Entertainment (D.A.N.C.E.)

Deaf-led plays by Sign Language Interpreter Trust (SLIT) and Deaf Arts National Culture Entertainment (D.A.N.C.E.)

Sign Language Interpreter Trust (SLIT) is a Bulawayo-based non-profit Deaf-led organisation specialising in Zimbabwean Sign Language services. SLIT provides interpreter training, certified ZSL courses, and counselling in sign language. Founded by Deaf and hearing professionals, it has trained dozens of interpreters and launched Deaf-awareness campaigns to improve inclusivity. Deaf artists and activists from SLIT and Deaf Arts National Culture Entertainment (D.A.N.C.E.), led by Tsungirirai Tsikira, co-founder of SLIT, creates civic platforms where Deaf youth and women co-develop original plays rooted in lived experience. Through workshops, dialogue circles, and public performances, participants challenge systemic exclusion in education, justice, and governance while advancing awareness of constitutional and disability rights. Collaborating with theatre practitioners such as Amakhosi, the project stages multilingual productions that engage communities and policymakers. Outputs include Deaf-led performances, ZSL training resources, interpretation training, video documentation, policy briefs, and contributions to international Deaf civic arts networks.

Angela Bettoni involved in the Europe Beyond Access International Laboratory Cycle

Angela Bettoni involved in the Europe Beyond Access International Laboratory Cycle

I am currently interested in exploring different styles of performance art in my work. Currently, in addition to my studies at the University of Malta, I am busy with the  Europe Beyond Access International Laboratory Cycle. These are three Laboratories “aimed at dance artists with disabilities from around Europe who are leading artistic programmes and have some experience of choreographing works, who want to develop their choreographic practice”. I attended the first workshop in Portugal in October 2025, and have the 2nd workshop in March 2026, followed by the last workshop in Barcelona in April 2026.
