Blue Arctic workshop

NTNU and SINTEF Ocean invite to SFI workshop on blue Arctic operations

Background

The Research Council of Norway has released call for Centre for Research-based Innovation (SFI) starting autumn 2020. NTNU is coordinating the SFI initiative BlueArctic in close cooperation with SINTEF Ocean and Nord University. A description of the proposed SFI is enclosed as pre-read for the workshop. Deadline for application is September 25th.

Several private and public user partners have been approached and included in an early dialogue when structuring the proposed centre application, and a draft description has been developed. In an evaluation of the SFI scheme in 2017, the importance of engagement of the user partners was highlighted, and there is a clear expectation from the Research Council that this is reflected in the new applications.

Objective

NTNU and SINTEF Ocean invite you to a workshop with objective to conclude on the main elements of an SFI application for a centre for Arctic marine and maritime structures and operations, with active collaboration between institutes and academia, industry, and public participants. Together we can create new knowledge, competence, and innovations for a future blue Arctic economy. The proposed objective for the SFI is that BlueArctic will contribute to sustainable management, innovation, and growth in maritime transport and marine operations in a changing Arctic climate, strengthening the blue Arctic economy.

The purpose of the workshop is to

  • ensure that the outlined proposal is aligned with internal strategies and relevance for future innovation and value creation of the user partners,
  • discuss the relevance of the four business areas and proposed business cases,
  • give inputs on key elements of the SFI such as objectives, organization of R&D work in scientific work packages and business cases, administrative organization of the centre, and budget structure, and
  • start the process of commitment of the user partners through Letters of Intent.

After the workshop, user partner input to the application will be needed in order to meet the formal requirements for an application, and statements of commitment must be finalized.
