A digital resource for everyone who wishes to work with equality,
inclusion and diversity in academia.

About KARMA

KARMA is a tool for the qualitative mapping of inequality and provides a framework you can use to gain insight into the local situation in your academic community.

Mapping local situations provides a good starting point regarding action plans for diversity and inclusion. On this website, you can therefore find resources to help you work with inclusion, gain insight into the local situation, and address local challenges. Among other things, you will find ideas for raising awareness, reflection cases, and practical advice on feasible mapping methods.

The project was carried out at NTNU during the period 2024-2026, and was funded by the Research Council of Norway’s BALANSE programme.

‘Diversity’ is a broad topic, and it can be difficult to know where to begin the work, especially since employers and leaders are not permitted to collect data on individuals’ ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, etc.

KARMA aims to help map local experiences and perspectives and promote awareness and change through qualitative tools that can support the development of local action plans.

Our tools provide insight into how people experience inclusion and power dynamics in the workplace across different demographic groups. This will help provide insight into the situation in your specific academic community.

We suggest 4 different ways this can be done.
