Adaptation and opportunities for hydropower due to changed hydrological inflow and seasonality

RP-3.1

Adaptation and opportunities for hydropower due to changed hydrological inflow and seasonality

The aim of the project is to deliver components to a digital twin integrating simulation of hydrology, hydraulics and water household.

Based on the components and data supplied, Thethe simulator within the simulator digital twin will provide detailed spatial and temporal information for the water management in catchments and watercourses and in the hydropower system.

Thise simulator will provide necessary information for testing and developing potential inpotentially smarter use of water and in redesign offor redesigning hydropower systems including to include pumping and pumping strategies. It will provide necessary information for investigating and developing combinations and strategies utilizing the hydropower system for flood mitigation including pumping of excess water, efficient use of reservoirs and flood tunnels, and the potential of nature-based solutions. It will also provide information for detailed investigations and optimization of environmental conditions in hydropower dominated water courses.

The model and the methods will be adapted to and demonstrated in selected cases studies applied across RenewHydro, but will be applicable for any hydropower system.
