Coaching and performance psychological aspects related to learning technique in elite sports

The main objective of this project is to investigate coaching and key performance psychological aspects related to performance development in elite sports. Over a long period of time, we have focused on investigating why some athletes perform and why others do not. This is something we are still focused on, both among athletes and coaches. We have specifically chosen to focus on how sleep can explain these conditions using new sleep measurement technology. Within sleep research, we have conducted several large data collections in interesting groups (cross country skiing, biathlon, soccer ladies and chess). In 2019, a comprehensive coach development program called Trenerløftet was launched, which aims to develop coaches across the country over the next two years. This is set up in a way that provides a unique research design and will be one of the main projects at SenTIF in 2019-2020. Here we will collect important information from both coaches and athletes.

This project is led by Associate Professor Frode Moen. Moen guides PhD candidate Maria Hrozanova, who focuses on the sleep aspect of this project in 2020. In addition, three medical students, master students, and several employees at Olympiatoppen Midt-Norge will contribute. Moen himself is the head of the Olympiatoppen Midt-Norge and part of the coaching and sports psychology group in Olympiatoppen. This is the basis for implementing the knowledge in Norwegian top sports.
