About the course

Course content

Central themes are wooden architecture, site analysis, form, space, the properties of wooden materials, chemical and mechanical protection of wooden materials, one-to-one scale, static priciples of timber strucures and their relationship to architectural expression.

Learning outcome

The course gives the students knowledge in integral approach as a model for handling complex matters.

Skills in handling complex design tasks, preparing students for the level of quality and complexity that are required for the master thesis are developed.

Through the course, the students will acquire general competence in developing timber structures into wood architecture.

Students must have completed 6 of the 7 obligatory activities in order to deliver their project for a final grade.

Learning methods and activities

The course consists mainly of design work focusing on large timber structures where the structural system is important to the architectural expression.

Required previous knowledge

Completed three years basic courses in architecture, bachelor in architecture or equivalent.
The course is connected with AAR4885 Timber Structure B and will be taken in combination with this. The evaluation is based on the architectural design work in the course.
