About

About the course

Learning outcome

How to do science is an obligatory introductory course for all master students at IBI. It is designed to motivate the students to start their master's thesis, giving them the right expectations and tools to begin. It builds a good philosophy around science and gives them some ethical aspects before they start.

The learning outcome is to know how to search for literature, how to read and write scientific texts, and how to present and give feedback to others.

The students design a whole MSc project from scratch. Together in groups, the students find a topic, define goals and hypotheses, design their study, do the study, analyze their data, interpret the results, and write and present their thesis in plenum.

Learning methods and activities

With the help of teaching assistants, the students work in groups to reach their goals. Teachers have some lectures but most of the teaching hours are open discussions and student active learning.
