About

About the course

Course content

The course is for students who plan to write their masters’ thesis in older history (antiquity to ca. 1750). The main theme of the course is historiography and aims to provide an expanded methodological horizon. The course highlights how trends, political/social/religious perspectives and diverse methods have marked historical writing until today. The curriculum will consist of a given literature and a larger part made by the student’s own choice. This part must be connected to the student’s masters thesis, and must be approved by the student’s supervisor. The course consists of lectures and seminars connected to historiographical trends and themes. The student is required to write a historiographical essay which gives an opportunity to get acquainted with the relevant literature.
