About the course
Course content
Attention will be paid to how organisational, economical and political factors influence participation in sport and physical activity. Important topics are the concept of sports, how to understand sport and physical activity in organised, selforganised and commercial forms, the historical development of sports, identity and socialisation into and in sport, the social significance of sport regarding health, sports as a democratic, voluntary organisation, and chellenges connected to top-level sports.
Learning outcome
Knowledge the student shall:
* gain insight into sports and the sports social catchment area with special emphasis placed on sport and physical activity as a social phenomenon and its meaning for sports education, health and as a social community.
Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to:
* respond to a given topic in an analytical and discursive manner through the use of scientific texts.
Learning methods and activities
Throughout the semester there are 4 hours of lectures and 2 hours of group education per week, apart from the weeks reserved for writing the compulsory term paper. Tutoring is available for the term paper. Form of assessment is a 3 hours written exam.
