Course content

Course overview:
-The brief history of mobile media technology and social interaction in media
-Attributes of modern smartphone and tablet computers
-Interpersonal, group- and organizational interaction in social media
-Mobile media and social interaction in the digital age; a medium for communication and entertainment
-Web-based content versus custom apps for mobile devices
-Accessibility and universal design in a mobile context
-Fundamentals of UI-design on a small screen
-Social media and production of media, including “crowd sourcing” and “crowd funding”

Learning outcome

Knowledge
-After successfully completing this course, students will know historical and current characteristics, including the limitations and possibilities of mobile- and social media interactions. They will also have introductory knowledge about standards and technologies that are fundamental to modern smartphone and tablet devices. Students will explore and learn about mobile media interaction challenges, and how to design user interfaces for applicable media contexts.
-Students will also acquire fundamental knowledge about ways social media shape and modify a range of interactions in contemporary society from e.g. interpersonal communication, corporate marketing, journalism and political campaigns.

Skills:
-After completing the course, students will be able to analyze and describe how mobile media and social interaction shape culture among individuals and groups in society.
-Furthermore, students will plan and design a mobile media and social interaction project using applicable theory and methods.

General competence:
-After completing this course, students can explain how mobile media function as a cultural device which influence social interaction. -Additionally, students will be able to participate in projects creating, adapting or evaluating solutions for mobile media and social interaction.

You may select one of the following methods for completing the final project assignment:
1) Theoretical paper dealing with a mobile media and social interaction concept
2) Design of a Mobile media and social interaction concept
3) Ready to launch mobile media and social interaction project

Re-sit examiniation:
Re-sit for the written exam in August.
